On Sunday, April 6, 2025, a gas explosion occurred at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Amosu Street in the Ijora Badia area of Lagos State, resulting in injuries to at least 15 individuals, including both adults and children.

The incident was triggered by a leaking 25-kilogram gas cylinder located in a mini shop within a bungalow that housed 15 self-contained rooms and seven additional shops. The gas leak ignited due to a nearby open flame, leading to an explosion that affected five other gas cylinders in the vicinity.

Emergency responders, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, swiftly arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire and evacuate the remaining gas cylinders, preventing further escalation. Margaret Adeseye, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed that all injured individuals received prompt medical attention, with some administered first aid on-site and others transported to nearby hospitals. She assured that none of the injuries were life-threatening.

15 Injured in Ijora Badia Gas Explosion

Preliminary investigations attribute the explosion to the mishandling of gas products, which led to the leak and subsequent ignition. Authorities have reiterated the importance of proper handling and storage of gas cylinders to prevent such incidents in the future.
