The Nigerian Senate has suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months, following allegations of misconduct and a breach of Senate rules. The suspension includes the withdrawal of her salaries and allowances, the sealing of her office, and the suspension of her legislative aides' salaries.

The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions recommended the suspension after Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment—a claim the committee dismissed due to procedural violations.

The committee's recommendations, approved during a plenary session, stipulate that Akpoti-Uduaghan's office be locked, her security details withdrawn, and her access to the National Assembly premises barred for the duration of the suspension.

The Senate indicated that the suspension could be lifted if Akpoti-Uduaghan submits a written apology.

This development has sparked discussions about gender representation and the handling of misconduct allegations within Nigerian politics.
