The Abia State Government has announced plans to intensify actions against criminal activities by scrutinizing traditional rulers suspected of harboring criminals within their communities. Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, disclosed this during a press briefing on the outcomes of the State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday in Umuahia.
Government's Stance on Traditional Rulers
Commissioner Kanu emphasized that security operatives, acting on credible intelligence, will conduct raids in areas where unlawful elements are believed to be sheltered. He stressed that traditional rulers found culpable of providing refuge or protection to criminals would face the full weight of the law, as the government aims to rid the state of insecurity.
The Commissioner urged town unions and traditional rulers to fulfill their duties of maintaining security and vigilance within their communities. He highlighted a recent kidnapping incident in Ukwa involving a prominent business mogul, noting that the victim has been released and is in good health.
Commitment to Resident Safety
Reaffirming the government's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents, Kanu called on the populace to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the appropriate security agencies.
This initiative underscores the Abia State Government's dedication to fostering a secure environment and holding community leaders accountable in the fight against crime.
