In a surprise announcement on June 27, 2025, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), officially resigned from his post, effective immediately . The news was confirmed by multiple sources, including former Buhari aide Bashir Ahmad, via X.

In his resignation letter, Ganduje cited deteriorating health as his primary motivation, saying he needed to prioritize his well-being after two years heading the party . However, sources within the APC suggest that internal friction—especially concerns from the North Central region over the geographical balance of the party's leadership—may have influenced the decision.

Eyewitnesses at the APC secretariat in Abuja reported seeing Ganduje’s personal items removed from his office, and confusion now reigns among party staff and members awaiting NWC guidance on next steps.

According to party insiders and Premium Times, Ganduje officially handed in his resignation letter through the party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru. He will be succeeded temporarily by Deputy National Chairman (North), Abubakar Dalori, pending a substantive replacement during the party's national convention set for December 2025.
