In a significant political development, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, made an unexpected appearance at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum meeting held on Sunday night in Abuja. The gathering took place at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro and was attended by both serving and former PDP governors, as well as key party stakeholders.
Wike's attendance marks his first participation in a PDP function in several months, following his prominent role in the G5 faction and his alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government. His presence at the meeting has sparked speculation about potential reconciliation efforts within the party.
The meeting, convened by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, focused on addressing the ongoing internal crisis within the PDP, strategizing for the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for May 27, and preparing for the 2027 general elections. Discussions also included forming a seven-member committee, chaired by former Senate President Bukola Saraki, to ensure a smooth and conflict-free NEC meeting and national convention.
Wike's unexpected participation is seen by some analysts as a potential step toward mending divisions within the PDP, especially in light of recent high-profile defections to the APC, including that of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other key party figures.
The PDP leadership has not issued an official statement regarding Wike's attendance. However, his involvement in the meeting suggests possible efforts to restore unity and strengthen the party ahead of future electoral contests
