Doctors under the umbrella of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) have announced plans to commence a nationwide strike starting this Thursday.

The decision follows ongoing disputes with the federal government over unpaid salaries, poor working conditions, shortage of medical staff, and delays in implementing agreements previously reached.

According to sources within the association, the strike will affect public hospitals across the country, and only emergency services may remain partially functional.

Key Demands Include:

  1. Payment of salary arrears and wage adjustments

  2. Improved welfare and hazard allowances

  3. Adequate staffing and better working conditions

  4. Implementation of the Medical Residency Training Act

This development comes amid growing concerns over Nigeria’s health system, which continues to battle with brain drain and lack of investment.

Patients nationwide are advised to seek alternatives or emergency-only care as the strike action could cause major disruptions in government-owned health facilities.
