Midnight Fire Outbreak Destroys Goods At Ladipo, Owode Onirin Markets In Lagos

In the early hours of Tuesday, February 25, 2025, devastating fires swept through two major markets in Lagos State, leading to the loss of goods worth millions of naira. The first incident occurred around 1 a.m. at Ladipo Market in Mushin, a hub renowned for vehicle spare parts and mechanical tools. The blaze rapidly consumed numerous shops and warehouses stocked with mechanical tools, vehicle spare parts, motorcycles, and household electrical appliances. Firefighters from Isolo, Bolade, and Alausa Fire Stations faced significant challenges accessing the densely packed market but managed to contain the inferno by 6 a.m., preventing its spread to adjacent properties. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Simultaneously, another fire erupted at Owode Onirin Market along Ikorodu Road, affecting shops specializing in metallic materials. Emergency responders from the Alausa and Ikorodu Fire Stations swiftly intervened, bringing the situation under control by 5 a.m. The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the absence of casualties in both incidents and commended the firefighters' efforts in preventing further devastation. Investigations are underway to determine the causes of the fires.
