The Nigerian National Assembly has officially suspended all legislative activities for a week—from Monday, July 14, until Tuesday, July 22, 2025—following the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari in London on Sunday, July 13.
The suspension covers plenary sessions, committee meetings, oversight visits, and other formal duties in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, according to a statement from Clerk Kamoru Ogunlana.
Ogunlana explained that the suspension aimed to ensure lawmakers reschedule engagements to fully attend Buhari’s burial events and honour his legacy. The leadership of both chambers extended heartfelt condolences to the Buhari family, the people of Katsina State, and Nigerians at large, noting his lifelong commitment to national unity and integrity.
