As of July 1, 2025, the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) has confirmed a nationwide disruption of SIM-related services. This interruption affects all mobile networks across the country. The cause is a directive from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) mandating a switch to a new identity verification platform.

According to ALTON's statement, the migration process has led to unforeseen technical challenges, impacting the availability of SIM services nationwide. Consequently, mobile network operators are currently unable to process SIM swaps, replacements, new activations, or other related services. ALTON is collaborating with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), NIMC, and other relevant authorities to address the integration issues promptly. Subscribers are advised to postpone SIM-related requests until further notice.

The new platform aims to enhance the integrity and efficiency of identity management systems in Nigeria. However, the transition has temporarily hindered mobile network operators from offering seamless SIM-related services.

ALTON assures the public of its commitment to secure and high-quality telecom services and will provide timely updates as the situation progresses.
