President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to embark on a two-nation diplomatic mission beginning Saturday, June 28, 2025, first heading to Saint Lucia for a state visit aimed at strengthening Nigeria-Caribbean ties under the African Union's Sixth Region initiative.

In Saint Lucia, Tinubu is scheduled to hold courtesy calls with the Governor-General and Prime Minister, address a joint session of Parliament at the William Jefferson Clinton Ballroom, and join a high-level luncheon with OECS heads of government . He’ll also visit Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in Castries to foster educational partnerships.

Following the Caribbean leg, President Tinubu will travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to participate in the 17th BRICS Summit—scheduled for July 6–7, 2025—attending as a BRICS "partner country" at the invitation of Brazilian President Lula.

The summit will focus on the theme “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance.” Discussions are expected to cover economic development, social cooperation, climate resilience, and digital transformation within emerging economies.

Nigeria’s participation underscores its ambitions to increase influence in the Global South, deepen diplomatic and economic partnerships beyond the continent, and position itself as a proactive voice in multilateral negotiations.
