During the ongoing trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a Department of State Services (DSS) operative testified that no weapons or instruments of terrorism were found on Kanu at the time of his arrest in October 2015.

The DSS operative, identified as PW1, stated under cross-examination that all items recovered from Kanu were personal belongings, including electronic devices such as laptops, iPads, modems, and microphones. He admitted that none of these items were analyzed for potential use in terrorist activities, as his mandate was limited to arresting Kanu and obtaining his statement.

Furthermore, PW1 acknowledged that Kanu's statement was taken without the presence of his legal counsel, raising concerns about due process. He also confirmed that no other individuals were arrested or charged alongside Kanu for the same offenses.

The defense, led by Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), highlighted these admissions to question the strength of the prosecution's case. Agabi emphasized that the lack of incriminating evidence and procedural irregularities undermine the allegations against Kanu.

The trial continues before Justice James Omotosho at the Federal High Court in Abuja, with further proceedings expected in the coming weeks.
