In a significant development, the Ekiti State Police Command has dismantled an illegal university study centre operating within the state. Two individuals were arrested for allegedly issuing counterfeit degree certificates, contributing to the broader issue of academic fraud in Nigeria.
This incident is part of a larger crackdown by the National Universities Commission (NUC), which has identified and listed 58 illegal universities operating across the country. Among these is Saint Clements University located in Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State . The NUC has explicitly stated that certificates from these unaccredited institutions are invalid for purposes such as the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), employment, or further academic pursuits.
The Federal Government, acknowledging the severity of the issue, has initiated investigations into private universities established in the last 15 years. This move aims to scrutinize the authenticity of their operations and ensure they meet the required educational standards.
These actions underscore the government's commitment to preserving the integrity of Nigeria's educational system and protecting students from fraudulent academic institutions.
