Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has issued a stern warning to native doctors, urging them to cease polluting the state's rivers and streams with ritual practices. Speaking in Awka on April 10, 2025, during an address to All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) members, Soludo emphasized the detrimental impact of such activities on communities that rely on these water sources for daily needs.
Soludo advised practitioners to conduct rituals using contained water to prevent environmental contamination. He stated, "If you must perform rituals, use a container—like a bucket—fill it with water, and carry out your practices there. Do not pollute public water sources. Polluted water can make people sick, and we do not want that for our communities."
This directive aligns with the state's broader efforts to combat fraudulent activities by individuals posing as native doctors. Soludo has expressed concern over deceptive practices that mislead youths with false promises of instant wealth, leading to involvement in criminal activities. He clarified that the government's actions target fraudulent individuals exploiting traditional practices, not legitimate traditional worshippers.
The governor's call reflects Anambra State's commitment to preserving public health and upholding the integrity of genuine traditional practices.
