The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has firmly dismissed any involvement in merger or coalition discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections. In an official statement released after the party's 587th National Working Committee (NWC) meeting, National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba emphasized that the PDP is not engaged in any merger, fusion, or amalgamation talks with other political parties or interests. He highlighted the party's ongoing nationwide membership drive as evidence of its growing popularity and capacity to win elections independently, provided the electoral process is free, fair, and transparent.

This clarification comes amid speculations of potential alliances among opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party's Peter Obi, and NNPP's Rabiu Kwankwaso, aiming to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming elections. However, the PDP has reiterated its commitment to maintaining its autonomy and focusing on strengthening its internal structures and grassroots support.

Furthermore, the PDP has expressed concerns over the possibility of Nigeria transitioning into a one-party state, citing the APC's increasing dominance. The party has vowed to resist any such developments, emphasizing its role as a viable opposition and its dedication to preserving Nigeria's democratic principles.

In summary, the PDP remains resolute in its decision to contest the 2027 elections independently, focusing on internal consolidation and expanding its membership base, rather than pursuing mergers or coalitions with other political entities.
