Tensions boiled over early on June 27 at Gyutiev Model College, Saghev Ward, Guma LGA, Benue State, when final-year students torched the residence of their principal, Mr. Isaac Yina. The protesters accused him of extorting ₦85,000 each from 178 students under the pretext of NECO registration, only for none to be registered for the exams.
Local authorities have yet to respond, and it’s unclear if any arrests have been made. The incident highlights escalating frustrations over corruption in school management and the high stakes of exam registration in Nigeria.
