Two Suspects in Anambra Lawmaker's Murder Escape, Police Launch Massive Manhunt
Authorities in Anambra State are on high alert following the escape of two key suspects linked to the murder of Hon. Justice Azuka, a member of the State House of Assembly representing Onitsha 1 Constituency.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, confirmed receiving reports of the escape on February 18, 2025. In response, he has ordered an intensive manhunt, deploying tactical teams, intelligence officers, and operational units to track down the fugitives. Additionally, disciplinary measures have been initiated against officers whose negligence may have led to the escape.
According to preliminary findings, the suspects had been cooperating with investigators in a bid to capture the alleged buyer of stolen property linked to the criminal gang. During the operation, law enforcement successfully apprehended the receiver and recovered two stolen vehicles believed to have been used in their crimes. However, amid the raid, the two suspects managed to flee.
Reaffirming the force's commitment to justice, CP Orutugu assured the public that security forces are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the re-arrest of the fugitives. He also warned that any officers found culpable in the escape would face strict disciplinary action.
